What am I?

This week we were able to do acting games in class as well as the one minute tableau challenge. I found this game unique because it gave each person in the group a chance to have their own voices, along with the fact of having their own idea without being interrupted by the other person. There are obviously different levels of difficulties to this game but it sort of forces the student to really think outside of the box and get creative and I really like that because I am always trying to think of new ways to get my kiddos to be more creative in the classroom. This is art because you are using your body as a human sculpture. You and your partners are turning, twisting, bending, and moving your bodies into a position to create something and I feel that is what the basis of art is. Movement, whether that is on a blank canvas or using your body. Potentially challenges with this activity is that it is almost putting the student on the spot and sort of forcing an idea out of them and on top of that it is timed so it can cause a lot of stress and or pressure to think of something and that can very much make a student uncomfortable. Another challenge could be that the group just does not agree on one thing or the group potentially could come up with nothing. The other acting games were pretty fun to do and I have actually incorporated them into my classroom. When I think of art with these games, I think of “art of emotion”, now is that a real thing? I have no idea, but it sounds good and I feel that it matches the acting games that were performed. I feel it is a great way for the students to bond and build better relationships with their classmates, it also builds trust with the student and the teacher when you participate and follow the direction of the student. When I think about art, I certainly think about drama because I believe a lot of art that I am more gravitated towards is dramatic art and it's loud and bold and makes a statement. The coloring of the water bottles to make them look like glass was very neat. It is amazing to be able to see that process and how it works and I can not begin to imagine how much man/woman power it takes to even be able to hold the pole while making the glass in hot temps. Lastly, when making my foil sculpture I immediately thought of a person, so that is what I made by slicing the foil into 3 sections then mashing them together to make arms, legs, and a head. I used the “envision” studio habit of mind this week. Because, throughout this whole process, I was envisioning myself as the artist, and taking myself on a journey through this part of the art world and stepping out of my comfort zone to try and recreate these new and exciting (to me) types of art.
